NSW Police hold "grave concerns" for a missing couple after blood was found in a home in Sydney's eastern suburbs and a Cronulla skip-bin, along with possessions.

Luke Davies, 29, and Jesse Baird, 26, were last seen in Paddington on Monday evening.

Police found a "significant" amount of blood at Mr Baird's Brown Street home in Paddington about 1pm yesterday, and have since established a crime scene, Detective Superintendent Jodi Radmore said.

Detectives then went to Mr Davies's home in Waterloo, but they have not been able to locate him.

Mr Baird worked for Network 10 for more than seven years, including reporting stints for Studio 10, and presenting Totally Wild, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Police were alerted about 11am yesterday, after a worker who was putting rubbish into the skip-bin in Cronulla found a number of items "that appeared to be unusual", and contacted emergency services, Detective Superintendent Radmore said.

She would not be drawn on a possible "murder-suicide," or what may have occurred, but is not ruling any theory out at this point of their investigation.

"At this stage we would like to speak to Luke or Jesse or ideally both," she said.

From forensic evidence found in the eastern suburbs home and in the Cronulla bin, the detective said an "incident more than likely occurred at the Paddington address".

"That has given us grave concerns for one, possibly both their safety".

One of the two men posted to social media on Tuesday evening, but Detective Superintendent Radmore wouldn't confirm who.

Witnesses yesterday told officers they heard "shouting" and a "verbal argument" early on Monday morning.

A wallet, phone, credit cards and keys have also been found, and a car from both men have been located and seized.

All the forensic testing on the blood is currently being done, and cannot currently be matched to any individual.
